Let’s Get Cooking …

Take a look at this fantastic play kitchen that this clever Mum has made for her kids. She has converted an Ikea VIKA FURUSUND table leg into an oven, fridge and sink. This is such a brilliant idea, and she has done it with no previous experience. Check out the link for more images and materials required to make this.

We love … Merino Kids

When Noah started wriggling out of his swaddling when we was a few months old I was at a bit of a loss as to how to keep him covered during the night. Living in regional Western Australia we see a wide range of temperatures from 0-10deg mornings in winter through to 40+ deg in summer, which makes it difficult to keep your home at an even temperature (unless you have a reverse cycle air conditioner or underfloor heating, which we don’t). Usually by 3am I’m pulling the covers on to escape the cold that inevitably comes with a dying fire or an air con still pumping out cold air. Noah didn’t quite have the skills for replacing his own blankets, so we solved the problem with a Merino Kids Go-Go bag.
I realise sleeping bags are just about a given these days, most people seem to have something of the sort. There are loads of different brands – Grobag, Slumbersac, Dream Bag, etc. We were given one as a gift when Noah was quite small, but being polar fleece, he sweated something terrible in it and came up with the worst nappy rash I have ever seen. Needless to say, that was the last we saw of that. On a trip home to New Zealand, Noah decided he’d had enough of his wraps and started kicking them off, which meant I was being woken up every two hours to tuck him back in. In a state of shear desperation, I rushed out and bought a Go-Go bag.
This is by far, the best baby purchase I have ever made. Others might come close, but this is definitely the winner. The Go-Go bag is merino, so it breathes and adjusts to baby’s temperature. There’s no need for TOG ratings and they come in decent sizes that cover a wide age range: we purchased two – a winter weight and a summer weight, which last from newborn to two years (they have domes under the arms to adjust for size). The merino knit they use is lovely, it is so soft, and they come in different colours too. In short, they are fantastic, I highly recommend them.
As an added bonus (to ease my expat guilt) they’re a New Zealand company. They also make wraps for newborns, of which I will be stocking up on next time around, and clothing as well.
Buy online at Merino Kids, they deliver internationally, or at The Sleep Store in Australia (bonus free shipping and discounts on summer/winter 2 packs).

The Official Tooth Fairy Kit

I spotted this post today by Edwina at Kids style File: it’s a kit containing all the official documentation required by the Tooth Fairy, and includes a Certificate on which you record all relevant information including name, age, tooth lost, method of extraction and compensation information. It also includes a reusable deposit bag “for your first and subsequent transactions”. Kits are $21.95 from Monkeytail & Wellington.
Brilliant idea! I know I would have just loved this as a kid.
