Merry Christmas!

Sunday in Bed

The festive season has arrived with bells ringing and glasses clinking (in our house, at least!).  Our holiday officially starts tomorrow when my husband arrives from Australia to join us for a big family Christmas.

I’ll be Internet-free for the next three weeks, so I want to take this time to wish you all a very safe and happy holiday.  Thank you all for stopping by and visiting throughout the year.  I’ve so enjoyed reading all your comments and “meeting” such a wonderful bunch of people.  I’m looking forward to catching up on all your news when we get back from our trip in January.  I’m sure I’ll have lots to tell you and plenty of new things to share in 2011.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family.

With love and Best Wishes,

Ashley Park, Waitotara

Earlier this week, we took the kids to Ashley Park to get up close to some gorgeous animals.  Having lived in the Mighty Manawatu for the first 18 years of my life, and travelling past here for 30, I still had no idea this place existed.  Some things are worth waiting for though – this place really is such a treat.

We wandered around the landscaped gardens (4 acres worth) and hand fed ducks, pigs, goats, deer, horses, ostrich, all the while accompanied by the owners pet fawn.  We didn’t stay for their devonshire tea (sadly) but did have a nice browse around their little antiques store.  The accommodation looks great with a view over the lake, and there are tennis courts, mini golf and a swimming pool for guests.

It was such a beautiful place, I highly recommend a visit if you are down this way.

Christmas Decor Ideas

Wow, Christmas really is getting close now.  I know retail stores have been celebrating since way back in October, but most of the families I know are only just starting to decorate the tree – any pre-December Christmas decorating is sternly frowned upon around these parts!

I’m really looking forward to decorating a real tree this year, and having the house smell of pine.  Mum is kindly lending us her Christmas decorations and I know the kids will love helping out.  Last year we decorated with a colour scheme but I’m not sure if we will this year, it’s going to be a fairly laid back family gathering as we have such a large group this year.

Will you be decorating your home this Christmas?  How do you like to dress up your house for the festive season?

Heirloom Quilt

I promised you all a little look at the heirloom quilt I made recently for a friends baby boy.  I managed to tidy up the trim and finish it off the weekend before I left for New Zealand and Mike just posted it last week for me.

I chose fabric by Amy Butler from the Midwest Modern collection and followed the same pattern as the first quilt I made.  I had a little trouble getting the binding stitched evenly the first time around, so for this quilt I machine stiched one side and then hand-stiched the other. It took ages! I rented the second season of True Blood from our local video store and stitched for three nights until it was done.

We’re all really enjoying our holiday in New Zealand.  We’ve spent the past two weeks catching up with friends and family and the kids are having a wonderful time.  Sam has started walking, going from just 3-4 steps to 3-4 metres before his wobbly legs get the better of him.

Such a cheeky monkey.
